Regional Police Academy Costs

PoliceThe Regional Police Academy is a 16-week, 800-hour police training school designed to provide basic law enforcement training to in-service and pre-service recruits.

Twelve of the academy credits can be applied toward Northern Michigan University’s 65-credit associate degree of law enforcement.

Financial aid is available through NMU’s standard financial aid process for qualified applicants.

The main costs for the program are:

  • Academy fee: $4,900
  • NMU application fee: $35 (if applicable)
  • Uniforms and boots: approximately $290

Additional costs to consider are:

  • Housing and food
  • Physical examination*
  • Hearing examination*
  • Vision examination*
  • Physical fitness test*
  • MCOLES reading/writing test*

*NMU is the site of these tests.
